2 Niagara Falls restaurants, 1 in Welland closed temporarily following health inspections in past week

The cited Niagara Falls businesses are on Lundy’s Lane and Portage Road, while the Welland restaurant is on Lincoln Street.

Niagara Region Public Health inspectors conduct inspections on businesses to determine if they follow all health regulations.

Three Niagara restaurants were given temporary closure orders by public health officials in the past week.


Gibbos Niagara

Gibbos Niagara at 7891 Portage Rd. in Niagara Falls was ordered closed on July 27.

Niagara Region reported that the business was not in compliance for the following requirements:

  • Food is protected from potential contamination (e.g., food covered, labelled, off floor, sneeze guard). — Corrected during inspection
  • Utensils are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • An adequate number of handwashing stations are maintained and kept adequately supplied and are situated for convenient access by food handlers. — Corrected during inspection
  • Mechanical ventilation is maintained to ensure the elimination of odours, fumes, vapours, smoke and excessive heat.
  • Premise is protected against the entrance of pests and kept free from conditions that lead to harbouring or breeding of pests.
  • Food premise is provided with a constant supply of hot and cold potable running water.
  • Washrooms are provided, properly equipped, in good repair and maintained in a sanitary manner.
  • Food premise is kept clean and maintained in a sanitary condition.
  • Mechanical dishwashing is properly constructed, designed and maintained.
  • Certified food handler is on-site.

The business reopened July 30 following reinspection.

Subway

Subway at 95 Lincoln St. W. in Welland was ordered closed on July 22.

Niagara Region reported the business was not in compliance for the following requirements:

  • Washrooms are provided, properly equipped, in good repair and maintained in a sanitary manner.
  • Food premise is provided with a constant supply of hot and cold potable running water.
  • Food premise is provided with a constant supply of hot and cold potable running water.
  • An adequate number of handwashing stations are maintained and kept adequately supplied and are situated for convenient access by food handlers.
  • Washrooms are provided, properly equipped, in good repair and maintained in a sanitary manner.
  • An adequate number of handwashing stations are maintained and kept adequately supplied and are situated for convenient access by food handlers.

The business reopened on July 23 following reinspection.


Mehfil Bar and Grill

Mehfil Bar and Grill at 5997 Lundy’s Ln. in Niagara Falls was ordered closed on July 22.

Niagara Region reported that it failed to protected against the entrance of pests and kept free from conditions that lead to harbouring or breeding of pests.

The business reopened on July 25 following reinspection.


Public health inspectors conduct regular inspections on businesses in Niagara to determine if they follow all health regulations. A reinspection is conducted for followup purposes, such as when outstanding items need to be corrected.
